I came by this record in a strange way: it was inside a 45 box I bought from eBay (for the box!) It's not totally obscure, but very little is known about it...
Apparently the A-Side was a hit for the First Edition (which included Kenny Rogers, during his "psychedelic" phase). It's credited to Mel Tillis and it's all 1965 Dylan / Eve of Destruction-esque, with organ, nasally vocals and a story about a Vietnam Vet returning home (from his "patriotic chore") to find his lady has walked out the door ("Ruby... Don't Take Your Love to Town"). Pretty neat actually. The B-Side, which remains uncompiled on CD as far as I can tell, is a completely different number and seems to reach for danceable and bluesy beat...
