conner cagle and the generals - mojo work / _
label: Mac Arthur, 1962?, style: white r'n'b

listen to mp3s: a-side

When I saw the name of the a-side of this record one Sunday down in South Carolina, I immediately picked it up. Any version of (Got My) Mojo Workin' is probably worth it! And this one is, although it's a pretty unusual, white r'n'b cover with stutterin' sax!
(see below for update on this record!)

Given the band name (Generals) and the label name (Mac Arthur) I'm guessing this is not a real label but rather a private press. And despite the label's declaration, the band didn't return as no info whatsoever is available on them anywhere ! On the other hand, there is a Conner Cagle running some night clubs in Pensacola, Florida (where is also booked as a musician). Surely no coincidence ?

**UPDATE**

I received an email from a former drummer for Conner Cagle:

the label was the brainchild of Raymond MacArthur, who had a band in the '60 called Ray MacArthur and the Generals.  Conner Cagle played piano/organ in Ray's band.  Conner truly does own and work at the Olive Drop Martini Bar on Pensacola Beach...   if it's still there after Ivan and Dennis.

Mark Boyd former drummer behind Conner in '63

-- There you have it! I guess I'll be placing that telephone call...
