gary knight - the world 2,000 / how warm you are
label: Philips 40515, 1968, style: psych/pop

listen to mp3s: a-side b-side

I was always intrigued by the title of this record, which pops up on eBay from time to time, and finally snagged it a few months ago for $10 or so. Thankfully it turns out to be worth every penny.

There was a Gary Knight (and his Nite Lites, among other spellings) in Chicago in the mid-60's, but my information has it that this is someone else. Could it be someone under a false name? This person got multiple chances to record without seeming to tour and productions are interesting so I would guess it's some session guy. The A-Side is a real winner, with trippy noise in the beginning leading into a sitar (wah-wah'ed guitar?) lead track that peaks in Latin percussion and trumpet. The B-Side is softer but still quirky... See my second entry for Gary's next (and if possible, more bizarre) record!
