the calico wall: mystery 45s
jay dee bryant - get it / you're hurting me
label: Enjoy, 1967? style: funk / soul
listen to mp3s: a-side b-side
Here's one that I got for a buck in Brooklyn. The label was a mystery until I did the necessary google search...
The label was apparently run out of a record shop in Harlem during the 60's by the Robinson brothers (who also published some of the material under their own company, such as on this release). Other releases included quite a bit of blues (including Elmore James), soul and funky offerings... about 50 releases in all.
As to who this singer was, no idea. The A-Side is somewhat James Brown-ish, early funk or maybe "boogaloo". The B-Side is a strong ballad. Both features very long fadeouts for such indie operations (3-4 seconds on each !). Neither track appears to have come out on CD as of yet...
