jimmy dockett - all i need (is your love) / the lucky guy
label: Camille, 1966?, style: mid-60's (pop-) soul

listen to mp3s: a-side b-side

Here's another obscurity found in Greenpoint, Brooklyn...

I barely decided to pick this one up, as I've had a few on this label before, and all were average Calypso/Caribbean records (Fats Greene, Pritchard Orchestra, etc). As it turns out, it was... sort of worth it!

Although it's definitely a soul record, it tends towards the softest of 60's soul and isn't particularly memorable. The B-Side is probably the strongest, but you kind of end up wishing this guy's voice was LESS unique/distinct... just my opinion anyway. He released another one or two on Camille, a New York label, as well as on Flo-Feel and other labels later on (clearly 70's smooth soul all the way to disco stuff). According to his website, he performed with: The Persuasions, Ray Charles, Surface, Platters, Chimes, Little Anthony, Kingston Trio, Five Satins, Coasters, Peter Noone, Johnny Maestro & The Brooklyn Bridge...

Apparently Mr. Dockett continues to perform and work ... as a tax advisor! http://www.jimmydockett.com.
